Cabarrus County has 1300 acres of reservoir area, over 47 square miles of drainage basin and 24 miles of shoreline that are maintained and protected by WSACC (Water and Sewer Authority of Cabarrus County) in conjunction with the Lake Patrol.

Lake Patrol officers are responsible for monitoring the waters, shoreline and drainage areas of the lakes in Cabarrus County for possible chemical spills, land erosion, and any other situation that can directly impact the water supply of Cabarrus County. Maintaining a good relationship with landowners in the lake areas is of great importance to both Lake Patrol Officers as well as WSACC.

As sworn deputies with the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office, enforcement of no hunting or fishing, no trespassing, no cutting of trees, no 4 wheeling, and no dumping are also part of the duties of Lake Patrol.

Having detailed knowledge of the lakes and the land surrounding them makes Lake Patrol invaluable to outside agencies including biologists, conservation scientists, members of the Department of Natural Resources and Universty personnel in conducting studies and research in our county.

The primary reservoir in Cabarrus county is Lake Don T. Howell located off Davidson Hwy on the west side of our county, but Concord Lake and the Mt. Pleasant Reservoir als fall under the supervision of the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office Lake Patrol division.
